sew what?

Happy Belated Valentine’s Day!

I had a great V-day weekend…starting with my escape from the North Pole (aka Lynchburg) I went to my aunt’s house in RVA and my parents came up for a nice home cooked meal. Sure beats the beans (hey – they are only 88 cents!) and cereal I eat on the daily at home. My uncle is a chef. Well, that’s not his REAL job, but I think he could take Bobby Flay in a throwdown any day - he’s THAT good. We had 3 different types of shrimp, 2 versions of rice pilaf, corn, grilled zucchini, and bananas foster. It was delicious!

After my parents left, my aunt gave me my very first sewing lesson. My mom wouldn’t let me take teen living in middle school b/c she thought it was a waste since she could practically teach me the curriculum at home. So while my friends were baking snickerdoodles and sewing cool boxer shorts, I was in drama and art . That got me far. Needless to say, I had never sewn. Ever. We decided to stick with something simple, a potholder. And by simple I really mean, it only took 3 hours. I wouldn’t exactly say sewing is my gift. All of my dreams of designing and creating my own fashion line quickly went out the window. The people on Project Runway make it look so easy! I think I did ok for a first timer though…

The next morning we got up and were treated to another home cooked breakfast a la my uncle! And then, just for fun, my aunt showed me this site called MySalary.com (I think that’s right) Basically, it shows you the base salary you should have based on your position, education, location, and company size. It was all fun and games until I soon learned that a janitor with a high school education in Lynchburg that works for a company with under 25 employees makes more than I do. Awesome.

We spent the rest of the day window shopping and eating, two of our favorite things to do! I think I found the swimsuit I want this summer. Which do you like better?

And that’s about it! Kerri is in town from Boston this week and I am SO excited. I met her after work last night and we caught dinner and a movie. I feel so bad that I have to work everyday she is here (including Saturday) so I have to sneak in time with her during my lunch breaks and when I get home from work. I wish she could stay longer! I’ll update on our adventures later in the week.

  1. Both suits are super cute, but I'd have to go with the top dark one :) Can't wait for summertime!
