frosted strawberry

I bet you thought I had forgotten about my little pop tart project, huh? Well I definitely have not. I just have to space out those tempting treats. After all, they are like 200 calories a piece and my pants didn't start magically fitting over night. Anyways, let me also preface this post by commenting on the picture. That cracked and crumbly pop tart is a direct result of negligence & exactly why I use a pop tart container when toting them around. My sweet sister brought me this flavor all the way from Norfolk and must not haven known how fragile they are in their flimsy aluminum wrapper.

As for the strawberry flavor? They aren't particularly my favorite, but I think you should also know that is rare that I would pick strawberry over any other flavor. It's just not my thing, unless of course its strawberry cake (I DON'T KNOW WHY THAT STUFF IS SO GOOD!?!?) So here is what I thought...

Toasted: I think this is one of my favorite ways to enjoy a pop tart in general but with the strawberry it was a little weird, it was like toasting strawberry jam...you wouldn't do that, but somehow in this case it kinda works.

Frozen: Most likely the best way to enjoy the frosted strawberry, it tasted just like dessert!

As Is: Strawberry as is seemed a little boring and not as flavorful as the enhanced versions (both toasted & frozen)

Keep checking back for more! NEXT: s'mores!!!!

Pop Tart Fact: If pastry is overheated, frosting/filling can become extremely hot and could cause burns. Good to know.

theres only here. theres only now.

So I've been MIA from the blog world for a while now and there is more than one reason for my disappearance. First off, my life has been pretty boring. As funny as it is that my recent experience with self-tanner resulted in brown polka dots all over my body, I didn't necessarily think it was of importance to post at the time. And I did not want my blog to turn into a public forum of my most humiliating moments...so thats all you're getting.

I think I was kind of in denial about my new boring life until I was quickly brought back to reality last weekend. You see, now that I'm home, I spend an awful lot of time with my parents. And don't get me wrong here, I LOVE spending time with them (especially after being away at college for so long) but it has kinda gotten to the point that they are pretty much the ONLY people I hang out with. Exhibit A - last weekend I went to Bay Days with my parents and the next day came across a wall post from my mom (written with the best of intentions) that said "love hanging out with you at Bay Days." Does that make me a loser? Yeah, kind of.

So you are probably wondering what I HAVE been spending my time doing. Well that answer is simple...eating. Literally. Not joking - my pants do not fit anymore. I wish I could tell you I have been training for the half marathon I've added to my "to-do" list or even the 5k I'm signed up for in October. Or that I finally landed a sweet job that will get me back in the Big Apple. But no, I have done quite the opposite. However, I haven't been completely wasteful of my time. I'm in the process of adding Hampton Roads to my food blog (check back on that soon) and I've combined forces with my sister to finally get Lil Tubbies Bake Shop up and running (at least on etsy) so that you can finally order some of those delicious desserts delivered to your doorstep - just click here.

I really can't complain too much about this much-needed break. Never in my life has my number 1 priority been simply to "rest and get better." I gotta say, it's kinda nice, especially when the medicine that is supposed to make you better, makes you sick. Plus, I know this is just the calm before the storm. Life is about to get pretty crazy...

frosted brown sugar cinnamon

What better pop tart to start with than the classic frosted brown sugar cinnamon? It was one of the very first pop tarts ever released! Plus, this has always been a favorite of mine, and apparently a lot of others too - check out the brown sugar cinnamon pop tart fan page.

On to the good stuff...here is my review...

Toasted: This is hands down the best way to enjoy the FBSC pop tart. The brown sugar cinnamon filling literally melts in your mouth. I am also convinced that toasting this pop tart truly enhances the flavor.

Frozen: Not quite as good, in fact, I think it somewhat loses some of its flavor as the freezing process somehow makes the crust more prominent than the center filling. Who prefers crust? No one.

As Is: The brown sugar cinnamon is truly a classic. Grab & go and you'll be set. However, if you have time, stick that baby in the toaster for a minute. You won't regret it.

Pop Tart Fact - The first four flavors of pop tarts were strawberry, blueberry, brown sugar cinnamon, & apple currant.

pop tart project

If you are what you eat then I'd be a pop tart. Seriously though, I think there was like 5 or 6 years of my life where I ate pop tarts for breakfast every morning. That was when those breakfast-disguised desserts still had trans fat! And even though those slim squares top almost 500 calories a package (who can only eat 1?), I still find them pretty irresistible. A while back I made myself a list of new short-term goals. One of those was to try every flavor of something. Well, I choose pop tarts. So now, here on my blog, you will have reviews to satisfy your pop tart needs. You're welcome. And to be fair I have made it a rule to test every pop tart three ways: frozen, toasted, and as is. All pop tart donations are welcome. They can be sent to my parent's address because, yes, I still live there. Oh the life of an unemployed college grad.

stolen blood

I gave blood today.

I hate giving blood, but I like to pride myself on it afterwards. My mom says I can't use the phrase "giving blood" though because technically I didn't GIVE any away. Apparently there is a big difference between give and take. The doctor called in a prescription and I had to convince myself not to cry... so maybe the correct terminology is "stolen." My blood was stolen from me today.

In other news, today was day 10 for my Amish bread so I got to make another loaf - cherry chocolate cheesecake. Don't be fooled - it doesn't taste anywhere near as good as it sounds. Maybe next time...
